Plumber installing new PEX water lines

Repipe and Water Heater Replacement in Powder Springs

📍 Powder Springs, GA

The Problem

Angie's insurance company recommended Grassroots after she discovered a significant water leak coming from her basement ceiling. Our Service Experts were out the same morning and traced the leak to a failed polybutylene cold-water supply line at a tee fitting, completing a repair that day to restore water service.

While on site, our team noted that polybutylene piping is a known defective material with a documented history of failure, and that the leak had exposed the home's water heater to a substantial amount of water, putting its internal components at risk. Given these findings, Angie decided to move forward with replacing the remaining polybutylene piping throughout the home along with the water heater.

Our Solution

Our team returned to complete a repipe, removing all of the home's existing polybutylene piping and replacing it with new PEX(B) piping throughout.

Additional work included:

  • Installed a new main water shut-off valve and PRV set to 55 PSI
  • Installed a new washing machine outlet box, ice maker box, and exterior hose bibs
  • Installed new supply stops and supply lines under the kitchen sink, master bathroom toilet, and master bathroom lavatory
  • Stubbed out new hot and cold supply lines for the downstairs powder room
  • Connected new PEX piping to the existing lines serving the guest bathroom and master bathroom fixtures

While completing the repipe, our team also removed the home's 40-gallon water heater, which had been affected by the earlier leak, and installed a new 50-gallon gas water heater. This included a new gas shut-off valve, flexible gas line, water shut-off, drip pan, thermal expansion tank, and T&P discharge line.

Once installation was complete, we restored water service, pressurized the system, and tested every fixture and connection to confirm proper operation with no leaks.

The Result

  • Brand-new home plumbing system, free of failure-prone polybutylene piping
  • Reliable new 50-gallon gas water heater
  • New main shut-off valve and PRV
  • Long-term peace of mind
